This elementary school was the second of this proto-type school built in Cheyenne, WY and houses 5th and 6th graders. The $26.4M single-story facility sprawls over 73,000 SF with a maximum occupancy of 550 students. The structure is primarily steel construction with tube-steel columns, with a metal roof deck on open-web joists and wide-flange girders and tube-steel braced frames for the lateral system. In some of the communal areas, CMU bearing walls were utilized to support the open-web joists and served as the lateral system. The building was founded on a shallow foundation and slab-on-grade system, except a small walk-out basement with a composite steel floor system over it, matching the elevation of the slab-on-grade. The building features large strip windows and a grand west entrance highlighted by a tapered, low-profile cantilevering canopy roof system.
