GSA Rush Hudson Limbaugh Sr. U.S. Courthouse

Cape Girardeau, Missouri

Complete structural engineering services including blast security design for ISC security requirements for a 5-story, 150,000 SF federal courts facility. The building contains three courtrooms and houses employees of the U.S. Courts as well as several other related agencies. It was modeled three dimensionally using Architectural Desk Top BIM software. The structure is designed to accommodate all of the tenant needs while providing a structure that is highly resistant to progressive collapse. The structure is designed for a region in the USA with high seismicity and is located approximately 60 miles from the New Madrid Fault, the largest fault east of California. The atrium structure was designed with steel plate shear walls for the seismic requirements while providing the client with a visually stunning entry space. The floor structure is designed to limit occupancy induced floor vibrations to acceptable levels in the courtrooms and balconies.
