RTD Civic Center Station

Denver, Colorado

Structural engineering services for the upgrade of this 30-year-old transit station downtown, which serves 15,000 passengers per day and 18 bus routes. The preliminary design phase included an investigation of the existing facility with documentation of the structural conditions and recommendations for whether to repair or rebuild portions of the structure. The old facility included extensive interstitial spaces, some with severe structural damage due to water intrusion, and which required our expertise in confined spaces access to conduct the investigation.
At the completion of this preliminary phase, RTD determined to demolish and rebuild much of the above-grade spaces, with a more open structure and site. The new facility includes a glass-enclosed terminal building, large canopies, new and extended bus ramps, and an isolated bus concourse.
