Denver Museum of Contemporary Art

Denver, Colorado

The MCA is a 3-story, 26,000 SF museum designed to accommodate a collection of galleries including video, photographs, painting, sculpture, works on paper, and architectural exhibitions. Design also includes a roof terrace and bar. British Architect David Adjaye was selected as the designer for being a known innovator with materials, and for being "more artist than architect". The MCA is his first museum design, and first building in the United States.
The museum's design approach, such as the use of perimeter translucent skin and expressed structural cantilevers, helped in winning multiple awards, including the 2008 AIA Denver Award of Merit for Design Excellence.
