HARBORCENTER Arena

Buffalo, New York

Martin/Martin provided structural engineering services for this mixed-use project that includes retail, five levels of parking, a hotel, and two professional regulation-size ice hockey sheets. The ice is used by the NHL Buffalo Sabers for practice and serves as the home of the Canisius College Hockey team. One ice sheet has 1,700 seats, the second ice sheet has bleachers. The roof structure is made up of a series of lenticular trusses composed of heavy glulam timber, steel tubes, tension rods, and wood decking. The system was developed through a collaborative process with Nordic Structures, Mortenson, the owner, and the design team to meet aesthetic and budget goals.
