Martin/Martin Moves Up in 2014 ENR Top Design Firms List
LAKEWOOD, COLO. – Martin/Martin, Inc. moved up two notches to sixth place this year among 50 Colorado/Wyoming top design firms ranked by Engineering News-Record (ENR) Mountain States.
The 2014 rankings are based on 2013 revenues for work within the Mountain States Region of Colorado, Utah, Wyoming, Montana and Idaho. In addition to the firm’s overall standing, Martin/Martin advanced in five other categories including General Building and Education/Research. Among the firm’s more recent design projects are the Morgridge Family Exploration Center and Rocky Mountain Science Collections Center at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science, the Colorado Capitol Dome Restoration project, the Energy Systems Integration Facility at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory in Golden, Children’s Hospital Colorado South in Highlands Ranch, and the University of Colorado Denver Academic Building One.
Martin/Martin’s office in Cheyenne was ranked ninth among 15 Wyoming firms.
In an ENR article accompanying the Top Design Firms list, Martin/Martin President Gary Thomas, PE, shared his thoughts about design industry market sectors that seem to be improving this year. Thomas said that land development, office buildings, sports and recreation and higher education projects “have been very strong with increasing opportunities in the months to come.” He also noted, “Private sector work is strengthening as public sector work has steadied or declined.”
When asked which issues still concern the industry, Thomas said, “Our greatest concerns moving forward include continued low fee pressure for design work, very rapid schedules and the increasing frequency of non-standard contracts that attempt to assign liability to designers for items over which they have little control.”
