John A. “Trailer” Martin, Jr., SE

Martin/Martin Inc. CEO and Chairman of the Board of Directors

As Chairman of the Martin/Martin Board of Directors, Trailer applies decades of technical and management experience to provide project guidance and organizational expertise. Highly regarded for his ability to communicate ideas, Trailer serves on a variety of seismic review boards, task forces and oversight committees, including appointments for the Cal State University and University of California educational systems. He has also held numerous positions, including two terms as Board Chairman of the State of California’s Hospital Building Safety Board. To date he remains one of only three of the board’s ex-officio appointees.

In 1953, John A. Martin, Sr., Trailer’s father, founded John A. Martin & Associates (JAMA) in Los Angeles. Trailer joined the firm in 1970 and was fortunate enough to have been trained for over 40 years by excellent engineers. In 1981 Trailer assumed control as President and since 2009 has also served as CEO and Director of Martin/Martin Inc. Under Trailer’s leadership, John A. Martin & Associates has grown into one of the largest privately owned structural and civil engineering companies in the world.

Key to Trailer’s success as a leader has been his ability to listen intently. Effective communication, honesty, and dedication to a high quality product are at the core of Trailer’s business philosophy. These attributes, along with his construction know-how and technical training, have shaped Trailer’s unique style of engineering design and client relations.
