Jack Petersen, PE, SE

Principal, Structural Engineering

Jack chooses his words carefully, a reflection of the importance he places on communication. This policy has served him well throughout his advancement in the company from EIT 1 in his early career, to structural engineering division manager, and now, in 2015, as company president.

Jack knows project success hinges on understanding what clients want, communicating what needs to be done, and aligning the right people with the right projects. This, coupled with a high level of responsiveness and a program of partnering with clients, yields effective designs and successful projects. It’s a system that Jack propagates, and it works.

As a big picture, big idea engineer, Jack is inspired by development of innovative processes geared toward client satisfaction and successful project completion. Industrial remodels requiring extensive structural modifications have encompassed a good part of Jack’s project work. Process is the key to industrial design, he says, and identification of building constraints is vital to productive industrial remodel projects.

For Jack, one of the greatest satisfactions as a structural engineer is the ultimate collaborative activity of seeing a project built. He tips his hat to the architects whose vision creates the road map for the many engineers and craftsmen who work together to meet the owner’s building needs.

As company president Jack welcomes the challenge of expanding and diversifying Martin/Martin’s services to meet client needs. He continues to build on the firm’s reputation for innovation and industry leadership in consulting engineering.

Over the years Jack has also found enjoyment in outdoor, non-competitive recreational sports. He prefers reading to movies, and appreciates travel and good food.
