C. Ben Nelson, PE
Principal, Structural Engineering
Ben has established himself as a Principal and project manager who works in concert with owners and architects to fashion cost-effective, creative structural engineering design solutions. His commitment to quality is reflected in the types of projects he manages: cultural/performing arts centers, higher education facilities, broadcast telecommunication hubs and community recreation centers. Ben’s hands-on approach, precise communication with design team counterparts, and anticipation of project needs consistently yield positive results.
As a trombonist, Ben has infused his love of music into his professional life. For three decades he has orchestrated solid client relationships. Ben’s passion for his college alma mater, the University of Colorado, has resulted in multiple projects there and with other higher education institutions. His ear for music has given him a greater understanding of the design requirements of performance spaces, such as the Denver Performing Arts Complex and others around the country.
Ben has been with Martin/Martin since 1984 (KKBNA 1984-1988) and is a member of the Board of Directors. He has structural design experience in every region of the country, including areas of high seismic and high wind. He has directed the design and construction administration phases of all sizes of projects constructed of all building materials and systems.
Not surprisingly, Ben has performed with his trombone for more than 40 years in various concert halls, including many for which he did the structural design. He plays his ‘sacbut’ (derived from the French word sacqueboute, meaning pull-push) weekly with two ensembles and enjoys melding music with mathematics on a daily basis.
